Some stuff I want to do, do you?

I've spent lunch time sorting out plans for the coming month or so. Let me know if you're interested in any of the below.

Avenue Q, the adult musical version of sesame street finishes it's long west end run in March, so I'd like to go see it before it goes. Cheap tickets seem to run out by February. The cheapest January ones I've seen so far are £20 for the Friday 23rd matinee but I can't make that. So £30 {edit: Looks like £25 should be possible} on another evening. Anyone interested?

On Friday the 23rd I'm planning to go to Shunt. An nightclub cum art venue under the vaults at London Bridge. Since a mate will be doing circus stuff there that week.

I read jabberworks's LJ for three reasons. Firstly she's a brilliant illustrator, whose daily doodles are simply fantastic. Secondly she draws one of my favourite DFC strips. Thirdly she really has her fingers on the pulse of the UK small press scene.

Alternative Press Fair, Euston, Sunday 1st February 2009, 12pm to 6pm.
I think I'll aim for around 2ish.

Anyone work near the South Bank and feel like having a look one lunch time?

I can't make late night Science Museum or the BSFA's Michael Swanwick Interview on Thursday 28 January, as they clash with a Karaoke thing I'm going to with a few mates from a previous Job. Grr. In fact they both seem to be on the last Wednesday of the month.

I want to go see Yes Man, but suspect it'll be out of the cinema's soon, so have probably missed the boat on trying to organise that one.

You should be able to get cheaper tickets for Avenue Q ... for example DiscountTheatre.com has upper circle tickets for the 24th of February at £22.50, same for 3rd of March (and the 4th, 6th, 10th-12th, etc. according to their site)

If you can do matinees (and you probably can't) then you can get 2for1 deals from the Days Out leaflet available at Waterloo (you need to have a train ticket to get the cheap deal I believe)

And being up in Cambridge I can't make many London plans at the moment ... perhaps when my lodger leaves, and I have a place I can stay in London again.

No, only did the little bit while I was out in the wilds of Coveney during the Autumn, and haven't cycled since I moved down into more central Cambridge. Something I will rectify as soon as either the evenings brighten or I get some time to practice when it's not dark+cold+wet.

Can get down to London occasionally, so if you start to think of particular days for Avenue Q etc. then let me know and I'll see what I can rearrange.

The gallery and press fair are free, and I don't intend to buy anything at the gallery. The BSFA's talks are free too. But point taken. No sign of you murdering Toby for his job yet then?

Its still tube fares etc though :( And I really wanted to go to the late night thing and could only pick one. Boo. Yeah, still unemployed with no current hope of change since everywhere seems to be holding off hiring till Feb.

I'd like to do Avenue Q, despite having already seen it, however, having already seen it, can't justify the cost.

I'm highly intrigued by Shunt, but as we discussed, it's probably too "clubbing" for me to actually enjoy it.

Went to something called the Fanzine Symposium a couple of years back which sounds similar to the press fair. Seemed interesting, but probably not worth my travel time.

Gallery doesn't appeal.

I'm not really sure why I'm bothering to comment, to be honest. Meh.

I did a poll about that. Can't find it now. In essence, I think replying with a "nay" to a mass invite is not demanded by decorum, but does help a person build a model of what you do like. So when said person is trying to organise something smaller they have a better handle on whether it would be worth asking you.

I think the small press fair will be more small press comic orientated than zine orientated, but I could be wrong.
