One of the things LJ does, if you (or anyone else) attempts to change your password, is to mail the account owner (you) a link to do it. If should mention that if you didn't try to change your password, you should do nothing.
I did send them a snotty email, and they responded saying they'd do better next year, but wouldn't change anything in the middle of this year's monlth long campaign.
They would appear to be genuine, not phishing messages. My working theory is that someone clicked on the "lost password" options on these sites, trying to see if they could guess my security questions and access my accounts. fortunately that doesn't seem to be the way these sites work.
I should check all my other online accounts. *Sigh*

For this reason, I'm quite annoyed with Tacheback, who sent me my password in plaintext in the welcome email.
