Geek credentials

I was reminded of this last night. My latest stake in the ground in an ongoing competition to out-geek Jono from my last job.
I was sitting cross legged, while volunteering at the art show, at a science fiction convention, watching a youtube video on my mobile phone, which demonstrated a double crotchet stitch, as I'd got stuck while crotcheting a Lovecraftian monster, that I'd designed myself.

Date: 2008-11-27 02:29 pm (UTC)Make a loop of 4 stitches.
* 4sc, 2sc in next st * until the round is 28 stitches
(This gives you a conical top to the head)

Stuff, and slip a 2 pence piece at the bottom for stability
6 * sc2tog *
3 * sc2tog *
sc2tog
sc2tog
(flat bottom of body)
9 * pick up a stitch from the middle of the "chin" and make a chain between 4 and 7 stitches long. *
(Tentacles!)
Pick up a stitch at the top left of the "face", pass the wool through a stitch at the bottom center, then pass through a stitch on the top right. Pass through this V shape a couple of times. Then loop the yarn, round and round the legs of the V before tying it off.
(Angry eyebrows!)
That's as far as I've got. I still need to:
Sew on buttons under "eyebrows"
Make wings.
Decide it it needs diddy arms, then make those.
Someone elses pattern here.

Date: 2008-11-27 02:54 pm (UTC)Why do I find the idea of crocheting a Chthulu rather more beguiling than solving my MIIS problems, I wonder?

11 x RND: * 4sc, sc 2 in next st * (carrying excess into next round)
