It's not that it freaks me out, more that it annoys me. See also Shannen Doherty's (and Paris Hilton's, to a lesser extent) misaligned eyes, and minging Kate Moss's wall-eyes.
An alternative title could have been: Part #137 of how cDave realises not everyone's brain works the same.
I made a throwaway comment at how there seemed to be more lopsided charaters these days, and was genuinely surprised when C said she hadn't noticed. The poll results thus far seems to be reflecting C's view.
I hadn't noticed missaligned eyes so much. My ears are slightly missaligned, which I didn't notice until I started wearing glasses 8)
After reading one of your google links it reminded me of an occasion when I was at 'Confabulation' Eastercon in 1995 when, after a program item hosted by him, Bioligist, Jack Cohen just came up to me and said, "You know... you have a very symetrical face!" then just walked away before I could even respond. Well that was Jack!
I remember reading a Discover magazine article about "what was beautiful." Beautiful apparently equals symmetry - but only in the neutral face. They didn't say anything about expressions.
I think the asymmetrical smile is kinda charming, perhaps a bit neotonous. I don't think that's bad.
I don't think it's bad, and think it works in all the above cases. It just leapt out at me, and I was surprised that others didn't notice at all until it was pointed out.
