Sweedish meatballs for dinner soon.

For various reasons I'm having a bit of a spring clean.

If I give up on the idea of being able to wheel my computer chair out of my room (since I can't currently anyway, due to piles of books), then I've got space for a couple of meters of bookshelves. I have to go to Ikea this week anyway, so which ones?

Ultra-cheap.
The Kilby is taller and wider than the Flärke, but slightly more expensive and can't take as much weight. Both have the same number of shelves, and you can't buy more.

In the face of the fact that I don't know how long I'll live here for, easily dismantlable furniture is good. Plus to maximise flexibility of shelf numbers and spacing I could get a pole based one.

Gorm seems to be the cheap version of Ivar. 20% cheaper. But looks like it's held together with screws, and not designed to be re-configured. Woah, Just noticed the depth. I think 50cm is a bit deep for primarily a book shelf, even with double stacking.

Plus I've put together a 50% new Ivar for a friend before, so now it's easy. They found the polls along with some damaged shelves by a bin, and just bought new shelves. So I know it's durable.

However, the cost's now gone from about £25 to about £60.

I guess I could just get 1 meters worth for now, and go back if I want more. Hmm. I'll have another go with a tape measure when I get home.

What I did at the Weekend and Reading list update still still to come.

Consider making your choice based on a visit to Ikea and then checking out Ebay. Stef and James (or rather Sim) have got some real bargains due to their ability to travel and collect items. Sure, they're second hand, but they cost a pittance.

White Billy is much cheaper than any other colour and it's easy to get extra shelves by having B&Q or Homebase cut them for you from a piece of conti board. Ikea customer services will give you free extra Billy pins for the shelves if you hint at missing ones in the packs.

Whatever you do, don't get Pöpli. Everyone at school picks on the Pöpli kids. Even I do. (Just hate them so much.)

Oooh - build one from scratch!

Then make a footstool to go with it!
