Following on from the "closest friends" part of yesterday's poll, someone asked people who they thought their closet friends are. This is just me being curious in a similar way about how other people view degrees of seperation from me.

My approach would be fairly slow, I guess, as I'd write via your home address but it ought to work. I have trouble thinking of the circumstances under which I'd be unable to contact you directly, though.

The main reason for the poll was to see who people associate with being able to reach me easily.

Here's a scenario though (just come up with it now, not before poll was written). The only forms communication that exist that you know I've received is face to face, or phone. If you've annoyed me, and I'm refusing to take calls and avoiding you, then I may very well be deleting emails and letters unread, in which case, you'd need to find a third party to make sure I'd actually got it.

To paraphrase Naked Gun part something:
"Didn't you get my letters?"
"I burned them all unopened."
"So you never got you inheritance check from your great uncle?"

Okay... in that scenario? I wouldn't be contacting you. If you can't get over the disagreement and it's that bad then one of us has fucked up big time and I'm not going to try to force my way back in.

... but to play with it some more, assuming I've just discovered something you really do need to know. I'm going to put it on LJ or Facebook if it's something shareable in a "Can someone let cDave know xyz" kind of way. If that's not an option as it's somehow sensitive, I'm still going to go looking for volunteers to pass on the info, most likely.

Failing that, and getting into the corner where I have to contact a real person for some reason (really stretching the point here, it's so unlikely to be the case), then I guess Jules would make most sense as I have her work contact info and know she knows you pretty well.

So I'm interested - what were the results like? Were people picking the same contact point?

Yeah. This is one of them.

In short, I was actually a little surprised by some answers. I think I know who I know people via, and they know who they know via, but they aren't necessarily the same route.
