Asking for trouble

I managed to score some tickets to a recording of "Comedy Store" at "The Comedy Store" for "Comedy Central". The site proclaims:
On its grimy stage some of the greatest acts in the business have perfected their act
Which clearly isn't true. They was a two man team with a mist-er and a stiff broom giving it quick scrub when we arrived. Owing to my leaving the office later than intended, we were one of the last groups let in. We wound up with a choice between left wing front row, left wing a few rows back, or right at the back.

We decided to sit at the front. I thought that this meant there was a good chance I'd get picked on. As I mentioned I'd come straight from the office, and was in a suit. I've been at the comedy store before where the stand ups picked on the suits.

As this was a TV recording though, and they generally wanted to try and keep to a tight set, I almost got away with it.

They recorded three blocks of comedians, 4 then a break, then 3 and a break, and a final 3. I had a pint or two in the warm up, and each break. It took from about 7 to 10. I think. I'd been drinking.

The comedians were mostly very good, but the last guy was absolutely brilliant. I'm gutted that I can't remember his name {ETA: Ah, he was Terry Alderton!}. He had this bit where he would turn his back on the audience, hunch over, and have a Gollum/Smeagol conversation. In one of them he decided to subtly hit on a girl in the front row, provided she wasn't too young. To find this out he turned to his right and threw imaginary darts at an imaginary dart board before turning to her and saying "21?". She said no, so he turned to his right again, and let fly another imaginary dart.

At which point I realised that I was sitting directly behind the imaginary dart board, so I (voluntarily) twitched. With the next dart he threw I flung my head back, and mimed pulling out the dart, and threw it back him. So he did what Spaced taught us comes naturally to any man in this situation. He pulled out an imaginary shot gun and fired at face.

Naturally enough, I pretended my head exploded, and then slid down the chair into a small heap on the floor. At which point I hear Gollum saying "Justin ruined that gag, he did. Still look at his girlfriend clapping now he's dead." Which gave me an excuse to open my and look around offended before getting back up.

At the end of the show they asked me to fill in a participant's contract with a space for Description of participation. I put "Shot to Death." :D

Golden Rule of Comedy: Never let the hecklers be funnier than the comedian.

Haha! I would love to see that. Let me know when it airs!
