I don't mind excessive coincidences in something light and fun, but this book is pretty serious. In places.
Now that I think about it, it probably tries to flip between serious and humorous. If done well the contrast can raise the humour and drama to a new level. I don't think this achieved it.
The pack didn't have to be named. It's just that they're such an all or nothing amorphous mass. In order to keep the story focused, it losses something of the sense of the real chaotic world.
