There's more public and serious impact to Kitty being outed as a werewolf in book 2 of the series. There's still a strong element of coincidence throughout, however. Also, based on reading the rest of the Kitty novels currently out, I would say that the author has certain limits to the number of named characters she's willing to handle in a book. Naming more of the pack might have caused buffer overflow.
