I was tempted to just stick the latest podcasts on my phone, but it doesn't have a standard headophone socket
I worried about that for my SonyEricsson phones (P990i and K750i in particular), but I found that you could get a converter plug for about five pounds or so, or better, you could get a decent set of in-ear phones with in-cord microphone (a "hands-free") for under £20 and the earphones in those unplugged leaving a standard earphone socket PLUS the ability to use it as a hands-free (even with the noise cancelling headphones).
But if you're determined for a standalone, my friends like the Creative Zen machines.
